Darwin Hijacked: How Neo-Darwinism Misled Science

Darwin hijacked: How neo-darwinism misled science

In popular science, schools, and nature documentaries, Charles Darwin has been depicted for decades as the patron saint of atheistic materialism. He is consistently presented as the man who supposedly ousted God from the universe by demonstrating that all life on Earth is the result of a blind, random, and continuous evolutionary process.

However, anyone who reads Darwin’s complete body of work—instead of the one-dimensional summaries found in modern textbooks—comes across a surprising and revealing reality. The historical Charles Darwin was by no means the father of radical materialist evolutionism. Today’s Neo-Darwinism reveals itself to be a large-scale ideologically motivated hijack: a system in which Darwin’s name is displayed like a trophy to justify a worldview that stands in direct opposition to what he himself wrote and believed.

The Historical Context: Fear of Science and the Crucial Error

To understand the rise and subsequent distortion of Darwin’s work, we must look back at the social and intellectual shifts preceding the nineteenth century.

Humanism and the Renaissance brought a growing confidence in human intellect. The invention of movable-type printing by Johannes Gutenberg around the middle of the fifteenth century made the Bible accessible to anyone who could read. Believers no longer wished to obey blindly; they wanted to understand in order to believe. A strong need arose for individual interpretation of Scripture, which in the sixteenth century led, among other things, to the Protestant Reformation following the excommunication of Martin Luther in 1521 [1].

[Cardinal Bellarmine & Pope Urban VIII: Galileo Affair]
[Psychological Subordination]

During this period of tension, intellectual and dogmatic authorities made a crucial error. Cardinal Robert Bellarmine (chief theologian of the Holy Office in 1616) and later Pope Urban VIII (Maffeo Barberini, who initiated the trial against Galileo in 1633) showed how vulnerable authority becomes when it clings to a rigid, literal interpretation of physical passages in Scripture [2].

Bellarmine and Urban VIII preferred Aristotelian physics over empirical observation and treated heliocentrism not as an observation of Divine order, but as a threat to Scripture. When empirical science later confirmed Galileo’s insights beyond doubt, a deep psychological subordination to reason and empiricism was created—an inferiority complex. Due to an overly one-sided fixation on the letter of the text, church authorities became alienated from the true spirit of the Word.

When Darwin published his observations in the mid-nineteenth century, he encountered an intellectual climate that reacted defensively and was ill-equipped to respond to scientific claims with nuance.

The Real Darwin: Fixity of Species and Divine Leaps

In 1859, Darwin’s seminal work, On the Origin of Species, was published [3]. His observations of tropical species, notably in the Galápagos Islands, overturned the intellectual world. But what did Darwin actually claim?

1. ‘Derive from’ Instead of ‘Descend from’

Darwin adopts the phylogenetic concept that a more complex species ‘derives from’ a less complex species, with humans at the peak of the primate lineage. He chooses his words with extreme care: he explicitly speaks of deriving from and not descending from.

  • Descend from suggests a continuous, gradual process in which one species imperceptibly transforms into another.
  • Derive from, according to Darwin, refers merely to the morphological and taxonomic relationship of a species within the same class, as a derivation from a preceding form.

2. Alignment with Georges Cuvier

Darwin admired the French paleontologist Georges Cuvier (1769–1832) [4]. Through fossil research in geological strata, Cuvier established that species remained essentially unchanged throughout eras (the principle of fixity of species) [4]. Darwin aligned himself with this view: he considered species to be ‘defined’ and fixed in their essence. The changes he observed in nature concerned exclusively secondary traits within the boundaries of a species—what we refer to today as micromutations.

3. The ‘Link’ as an Instrument of the Creator

Regarding the transition between species, Darwin demonstrated crystal-clear intuition. He maintained that a new species does not arise gradually, but via a “sudden, qualitative leap” (a macromultation). Because nature alone cannot breach the boundaries of a defined species, Darwin quoted the famous adage [3]:

“Natura non facit saltus” (Nature does not make leaps).

By this statement, Darwin did not mean that leaps do not occur, but that nature itself is incapable of making such leaps autonomously. And if nature cannot do it, Darwin reasoned, then only God the Creator can be the Author of the species leap.

As elaborated by Dr. F.S. Martelli and Don Guido Bortoluzzi in their analysis of creation genesis, this transition requires the unique intervention of a divine ‘link’ (anello di congiunzione / missing link). This ‘link’ serves as a one-time bio-theological bridgehead: a unique female progenitor prepared through a direct creative act of God (creatio mediata). Because this ‘link’ was a unique, transitory instrument for a specific transition, it is by definition impossible to find in geological fossil layers. In Darwin’s original conceptual framework, the idea of a ‘link’ explicitly excludes slow, spontaneous evolution and links the emergence of new species directly to a creative act of God.

Darwin was therefore not an atheist. He was not hostile to faith, considered himself a believer, and in his later years expressed astonishment that his work was being used to undermine Holy Scripture [5]. He received the Sacraments before his passing and died a faithful Christian [5].

The Neo-Darwinian Deception

How, then, was the believing naturalist Darwin converted into the icon of atheism? This was the work of Neo-Darwinism.

Driven by a positivist and materialist zeitgeist in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Neo-Darwinists such as Thomas Huxley and subsequent geneticists gave Darwin’s concepts an entirely personal, ideological twist [6]:

ConceptDarwin’s Original ViewNeo-Darwinian Distortion
EvolutionPossible phylogenetic order; species are defined and fixed.A continuous, autonomous, and spontaneous process of species transformation by chance.
“Natura non facit saltus”Nature alone cannot make leaps; a Creator is necessary. There are no leaps in nature, only a gradual chain of random mutations.
Missing LinkA unique ‘female progenitor’ used by God for a species leap.A purely hypothetical, undiscovered intermediate form in a seamless evolutionary tree.
Species ChangeLimited to micromutations (variation within species).Unlimited accumulation of mutations transforming one species into another.

Neo-Darwinists claimed that nature, through random mutations and natural selection, autonomously generated the entire complexity of life [6]. Darwin’s name was abused to strip science away from religious and Judeo-Christian traditions once and for all.

[Original Darwin] ──> [Ideological Hijack] ──> [Neo-Darwinian Dogma]
(Defined species + (Union of chance and (Atheistic materialism
Divine leaps) continuous change) in school textbooks)

Tragically, religious thinkers and intellectuals also fell under the spell of this zeitgeist. Lacking a deep understanding of genetics, theologians sought compromises. Figures like the Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881–1955) introduced the concept of ‘guided evolution’ [7]. Later, theistic evolutionists followed (such as Francis Collins, author of The Language of God), arguing that God created the universe in such a way that it could develop autonomously [8].

While well-intentioned as a bridge between faith and science, these theories form a theological and philosophical quagmire: they rob God of His role as direct Creator and demote Him to a passive spectator who merely provided an ‘initial push’.

The Shipwreck of Evolutionism on DNA and Cytogenetics

The Neo-Darwinian dogma contains a fundamental scientific flaw. When the structure of DNA was unravelled after 1963 and the human genome was mapped, it was initially assumed that the mechanism of evolution had been solved. However, clinical and statistical analyses of actual cytogenetic data dismantle the hypothesis that a chromosome reduction from 48 to 46 chromosomes could ever occur spontaneously in nature.

As R. Rotering demonstrates in his hypothetical synthesis for the rehabilitation of Darwin—supported by clinical-statistical studies and genetic treatises by Dr. F.S. Martelli—molecular and cytogenetic reality proves unyielding to the Neo-Darwinian hypothesis:

1. The Insurmountable Barrier of Monosomies (From 46 to 45/44 Chromosomes)

The Neo-Darwinian hypothesis requires that the transition from apes (48 chromosomes) to humans (46 chromosomes) occurred through intermediate stages (from 48 to 47, and 47 to 46 chromosomes) via random mutations and natural selection. Clinical data from human cytogenetics unequivocally contradict this possibility:

  • Absence of Autosomal Monosomies: Across chromosome pairs 1 through 22 (the autosomes, which code for somatic traits), the absence of a whole chromosome or even a tiny fragment (deletion) is 100% pathological and incompatible with life. An embryo with an autosomal monosomie fails to implant in the uterus or is ejected early via spontaneous abortion (miscarriage).
  • Sexual Monosomie (Turner Syndrome – X0): The only known viable monosomie involves pair 23 (sex chromosomes). In a clinical sample of 100,000 studied cases:
    • 1,358 cases of monosomie X0 were observed.
    • Of these 1,358 cases, 1,350 ended in fetal death or spontaneous abortion.
    • Only 8 individuals were born alive (a survival rate of 0.08 per 1,000, or 8/100,000).
    • All surviving individuals exhibit severe sexual immaturity and absolute infertility. Not a single individual with a monosomie has ever reached fertile age or produced offspring.

Summary Verdict on Chromosome Loss

A numerical reduction of chromosomes in nature is biologically and statistically impossible. Nature categorically rejects the loss of genetic information beforehand.

— Dr. F.S. Martelli

  • Infertility Barrier: Individuals with 45 chromosomes resulting from missing sex chromosomes (Turner syndrome) are biologically sterile and unable to pass on genetic material.
  • 100% Lethality on Autosomes: Any loss of chromosomes among pairs 1 to 22 results in immediate embryonic rejection or early miscarriages, making natural transition impossible.

2. The Clinical Limit of Trisomies (47 Chromosomes) and Polysomies (48+ Chromosomes)

Evolutionists assume that individuals with 47 chromosomes could have formed a viable, superior transition population. Medical facts demonstrate the exact opposite:

  • Chromosome Size and Natural Selection: Trisomies affecting large chromosomes (pairs 1–12) record exactly 0 live births. Abnormalities on chromosomes 1 or 2 result in the immediate termination of pregnancy.
  • Trisomies of Small Chromosomes: The only individuals with 47 chromosomes capable of surviving (such as Down Syndrome/Trisomie 21, Patau Syndrome/Trisomie 13, or Edwards Syndrome/Trisomie 18) exhibit devastating physical and mental malformations, drastically reduced life expectancy, and extremely high rates of infertility.
  • Polysomies (48 or 49 chromosomes, such as Klinefelter Syndrome – XXY, XXXY) similarly result in severely impaired and sterile individuals.
Chromosomal AlterationClinical Impact on Large Chromosomes (1–12)Clinical Impact on Small Chromosomes (13–22 / Sex)Fertility and Offspring Outcome
Monosomie (45 chromosomes)Early spontaneous abortion (100% lethal).99.4% spontaneous abortion; 0.08‰ live births (Turner Syndrome).Total infertility (0% offspring).
Trisomie (47 chromosomes)0% live births (Immediate spontaneous abortion).Severe pathological syndromes (Down, Edwards, Patau).Sterility or severe health impairments.
Deletion (Micro-fragment)Morphological devastation / Anencephaly.Severe organic and cognitive malformations.Incompatible with species improvement.

3. The Absurdity of Random End-to-End Fusion

The fallback hypothesis offered by some Neo-Darwinists—that a simple “end-to-end” fusion occurred between two small chromosomes in an ancestral pre-hominid without loss of genetic material—is similarly refuted by clinical reality: even micro-deletions (the absence of a tiny piece of DNA) lead to tragic clinical conditions (such as Williams Syndrome on chromosome 7 or deletions on chromosomes 13 and 18).

The hypothetical “improving chromosome reduction” has never been observed in any living or fossil primate. No living ape with 47 chromosomes capable of reproducing has ever been found.

Neo-Darwinism never became a proven natural law; it remained a philosophical-ideological hypothesis maintained at all costs in textbooks, museums, and conferences, while clinical facts and dissenting scientists were silenced.

The Theological Stakes

The rehabilitation of the real Darwin—linked to the synthesis of R. Rotering, Dr. F.S. Martelli, and Don Guido Bortoluzzi—is not merely a correction of scientific history; it touches the core of human identity. When the Neo-Darwinian dogma of autonomous, accidental evolution is accepted, the foundational pillars of theology crumble:

  • The Creatio ex nihilo and Creatio mediata: The direct creation of matter, life, and individual species by God. The transition between species requires a direct creative act for every progenitor.
  • Creation and the Fall: The original perfection of man, the subsequent Fall resulting in biological and spiritual degeneration (such as genetic damage caused by illicit hybridization), and the resulting absolute necessity of Redemption (Redemptio).

If man is merely the accidental product of a continuously evolving nature, God becomes superfluous—a mere projection of the human mind.

Conclusion: Time for Rehabilitation

Charles Darwin deserves to be liberated from the grip of atheistic Neo-Darwinism. Darwin saw the richness of nature, recognized the laws of natural selection acting on micromutations, but retained the intellectual modesty to acknowledge that nature alone cannot create new species. In his original vision, every fundamental ‘species leap’ requires the hand of the Creator.

As highlighted by R. Rotering and Dr. F.S. Martelli, the time has come for science and culture to muster the courage to cast off Neo-Darwinian dogma, face the empirical and cytogenetic facts honestly, and return to reading Darwin as he intended: as an astute observer who recognized the hand of the Author in the admirable order of nature.
